Game Industry Rallies for Hope for Jena Auction Event

August 6-7, 2011 eBay event will raise funds for AML awareness&treatment

Plants vs Zombies collectibles are just a few of the items up for bid

Port Monmouth, NJ - July 29, 2011 -?Rebel Gaming today announced Hope for Jena, a two-day online auction event to raise funds for Jena Aird-Spach's continuing treatment for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML), and to promote awareness of the disease. The auction will be held August 6-7, 2011 on eBay, and Rebel Gaming will host live gaming lobbies in which editors will give away prizes at random. The event brings together companies and individuals throughout the industry who have donated a wide range of items, including games, unique gaming collectibles and original artwork.

"We're overwhelmed by the response we've received," said Stephanie Vivian, founder of Rebel Gaming and Jena's sister. "People have been amazingly generous with donations, time and support, and we've collected some really cool things to auction off and give away."

Items expected to receive a lot of attention at the event include original artwork from Plants vs Zombies contributed by PopCap Games, and advanced gaming eyewear donated by Gunnar Optiks.

Acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) is a fast-growing cancer of the blood and bone marrow. In AML, the bone marrow makes many unformed cells called blasts. Blasts normally develop into white blood cells that fight infection. However, the blasts are abnormal in AML. They do not develop and cannot fight infections. The bone marrow may also make abnormal red blood cells and platelets. The number of abnormal cells (or leukemia cells) grows quickly. They crowd out the normal red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets the body needs. Jena was diagnosed with the disease in 2009, and received a bone marrow transplant in late 2010 that was not successful.
