Native coding dev platform Leadwerks 3 goes live

Latest version features automatic asset conversion, support for Lua and improved AI

The third iteration of the Leadwerks development platform designed to help iOS and Android developers create games in native code has been released.

New features in Leadwerks 3 include automatic asset conversion, which allows images and objects to be reloaded on-the-fly, and support for scripting language Lua, which can be combined with games written in native code.

The tech’s editing tools now also include a technique called constructive solid geometry, which the middleware outfit said helps streamline the process of creating games and allows artists to see what the game looks like as they build it.

AI is now also supported from the off, with improvements in dynamic pathfinding and traversable areas highlighted within the editor.

“Leadwerks 3 is a big step forward for our company and our users,” said Leadwerks CEO Josh Kint.

“We’re bridging the gap between mobile gaming and the traditional game industry. The product received a favourable response at the GDC 2013 expo. C++ is the game industry standard. Our market research at GDC 2013 revealed a huge demand for a cross-platform game engine built on native code.
