Social network streamlines integration and Facebook publishing for popular game engine
Today at Unite 2013 Facebook launched its Unity SDK that will help developers connect their Unity games to the social network.
The new cross-platform SDK is designed to help bring more core and mid-core games to Facebook, which was eager to point out the growing market for such titles on its platform.
Facebook says its portion of users with Unity installed more than tripled in the first half of the year, and now stands at over 90 million monthly active users.
The Facebook Unity SDK is compatible with builds for iOS, Android, and the web, but lets developers take advantage of the better performance of C# scripts in the engine.
All the SDK requires for publishing a game to the web is a few fields in the developer app and the URL of the game object. When finished, the game will be accessible to users through Facebook.
On the user end, the SDK makes it possible to play a game in full screen mode and have access to Unity dialogues for inviting friends to connect, answer requests, and sharing so no customer has to leave a game to participate in Facebook's social potluck.
Facebook is also promising better discovery for the Unity player by providing a custom install flow for the plug-in.
