One million devices manufactured in the UK

Tiny credit-card sized computer the Raspberry Pi has sold more than 1.75 million units around the world.

As of today, one million of the devices have been manufactured in the UK from a Sony-owned factory in Pencoed, South Wales.

The Raspberry Pi first went on sale in March last year, and after high demand manufacturing was scaled up to around 4,000 a day to allow for bulk buying.

The device was designed by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and it is hoped the miniature computer will encourage students to study computer programming, as well as providing a fully fledged PC experience at a low cost.

Consumers can purchase various versions of the Rsspberry from anywhere between £20 and £30, with discounts available for bulk purchases.
