Organisation searching for two certification analysts with industry experience to oversee scheme

The UK government has appointed the British Film Institute to administer the cultural test for games tax relief.

Also covering animation and high-end TV content, the expanded certification unit will act as the first point of contact for developers applying to qualify their game under the cultural test.

The BFI is also looking to hire two analysts to assess applications under the games cultural test and provide its recommendations to the DCMS.

Certification analysts will be required to ensure compliance under upcoming government legislation for games tax relief, and also provide advice and guidance to developers looking to take advantage of the scheme.

Requirements for the roles include a University degree or relevant industry experience and also an awareness of the tax relief process and what it means to the game industry.

In response to the appointment of the BFI as administrator of the cultural test, UKIE CEO Jo Twist said: "The BFI Cultural Test team have delivered a very effective service and expertise to the film industry so we welcome their experience to the game industry.

“The process of developing a game, and understanding their cultural nature is extremely different from films so we’re happy too that BFI will be hiring recognised games industry experts with significant experience of the sector to administer cultural test applications from games businesses, as we recommended in our tax break response to government. We will be assisting BFI with the recruitment of these key roles and will also be in regular contact with them to make sure the guidelines for the test are fit for games businesses.”
