Applications open for Crytek's $1m Indie Development Fund

Studios have until September 9th to appy for grant, recipients will be voted for by CryEngine community

Crytek is calling for applications for its new Indie Development Fund, an initiative designed to help smaller studios build successful titles with the firm's CryEngine technology.

The fund was announced at GDC earlier this year, and Crytek has kicked it off by investing $1m. More will be added based on what other studios using CryEngine choose to donate through the tech's new Pay What You Want business model. Devs are able to contribute up to 70 per cent of these payments to the indie fund.

Indie studios who want to apply for a share of this money can now do so through www.cryengine.com/developer-fund. Applicants need to have a project currently in progress, with no publishing or development deal in place. Crytek is looking for projects that are "viable, exciting, and technically and artistically promising".

The deadline for applications is Friday, September 9th with the first round of grand recipients due to be announced at the end of next month. Further funding rounds will take place every three months.

Crytek has also developed a new showcase gallery at the application site where fellow members of the CryEngine community will be able to vote on which indie projects they would like to see funded. These votes will influence Crytek's decision on who will receive these grants.
