Global First Party Quality Assurance Test Manager

OPM are pleased to be working with an industry powerhouse and are looking to recruit a Test Manager - Test Operations.

The Test Manager supports the organisation in maintaining and improving the highest standards of operational performance by managing assigned products through the processes, with line management responsibility of Test Lead personnel. The role supports continuous service improvement acting as the process owner for testing. The role is the point of escalation for studios during the Software Development Lifecycle and the primary point of contact for studio interaction pre and post launch.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
• Maintain relationships with studios and other partners, arranging studio meetings, with the aim of understanding risks, expectations, issues, budget implications, schedules, communication channels, onsite testing requests, service catalogue needs and continuous service improvement (CSI) initiatives for relevant titles
• Accountable for meeting studio expectations and be the point of escalation for major title issues and risks
• Ensuring alignment of title test strategies with other test operations functions, managers, global managers within First Party QA, and internal QA teams within studios
• Approval of the testing strategy outlined in the Title Test Plan, oversee initial budget projections and test effort estimations
• Effective planning of resources to ensure that all titles have sufficient test resources, evaluate resources levels regularly and if required, make the decision to renew or terminate contracts
• Work with, advise and inform title stakeholders to improve knowledge of First Party QA testing processes and initiatives
• Approval of relevant risk assessment comments outlined in the Risk Assessment Report, when required, liaise with title stakeholders to discuss testing risk throughout the lifecycle, highlight areas of concerns and negotiate a plan going forwards
• Monitor Test Lead communication with partners to ensure that their requirements are being met whilst providing advice and effective suggestions
• Maintain broad knowledge of assigned titles throughout the lifecycle
• Ensuring title readiness for submission
• Deal with ad-hoc title requests (e.g. CSG requests/Marketing requests)
• Responsible for establishing short and long term goals and objectives for direct reports, Test Leads and test teams, measuring as necessary to ensure performance is in line with expectations and provide feedback accordingly
• Instigate, drive and support CSI initiatives, working with other managers and Test Leads to identify areas of improvement and efficiency, using appropriate technology, tools and methods
• Analyse KPI’s, PI’s and metrics, trends and observations to identify potential areas of improvement
• Analysis of metrics to determine KPIs, creation of documents to capture and track metrics to form CSFs
• Work collaboratively within First Party QA, develop and standardise global test processes, quality control standards regarding the testing and release of titles
• Communicate and organize training for new processes.
• Act as a Project Manager/Sponsor for initiatives, ensuring deadlines, objectives and goals are met
• Complete the assigned title budgetary forecasts for the full fiscal year and reforecasts using experience and prior knowledge of staffing, risks, size, of the franchise / studio expectations
• Responsible for monitoring and escalating budget concerns
• Provide absence cover for other TM when required
• Report and follow up potential security issues with Facilities
• Assist Senior Managers and Director with any requests for feedback, additional duties, recommendations or any other business

Line Management & Staff Development
• Monitor and manage test lead performance, ensuring they are performing their required duties on their assigned titles to a high standard and in accordance with their job description
• Final approval of test lead title allocation taking into account evaluation of abilities, current workload and scheduling concerns of test leads
• Play a key role in the development of staff by coaching, giving constructive feedback, developing learning and career plans
• Hold regular 1-to-1 meetings and appraisals with direct reports
• Approval of holiday/sickness requests/special leave requests & ensure absence forms/sick notes are completed/provided
• Conduct absence and punctuality reviews recommending appropriate actions
• Identify and instigate disciplinary and performance management proceedings when required
• Monitor performance of all Test Ops staff
• Create, monitor and evaluate objectives and KPIs for direct and indirect reports
• Recommend and justify bonus reward proposals for relevant staff
• Ensure Test Lead input to CSI initiatives and efforts, delegate to Test Leads to drive processes and utilise individual strengths
• Recruitment and selection of Test Leads, assist Senior Manager(s) with any other recruitment requirements

• ISEB Foundation Certification in Software Testing (or higher) – desirable
• Prince 2 – desirable
• ITIL Foundation (or higher) – desirable
• Continuous Service Improvement (Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma, ITIL CSI) desirable
• High level of competency with MS Excel, PowerPoint, Visio (or equivalent)

• 3+ years in a software development or QA/testing management role
• Software development or testing/QA methodologies, practises, nomenclature

• Interactive media/games industry
• Cross-cultural/global working
• Working within a matrix structure
• Utilising off-shore QA resources
