Manga publisher looking to widen media reach

Tokyopop eyes game development

Tokyopop has signalled its intentions to enter the game industry as it signs to the William Morris Agency, who will “represent Tokyopop’s original intellectual properties for film, television, merchandising and game development.”

The publisher, which has recently opened offices in the UK and Germany, is the world’s largest supplier of manga in the world. It has also recently established a film company, Tokyopop Pictures.

"WMA’s partnership with Tokyopop presents a fresh opportunity for our clients and Tokyopop to create new characters and ideas through the dynamic world of manga," said William Morris Agency president Dave Wirtschafter.

"Our agency’s resources, coupled with the unique world of Tokyopop, allows for a global exchange between traditional content creators and manga, anime and beyond."

Tokyopop’s CEO/CCO Stu Levy added: “We are excited to join forces with WMA, as we further develop the Tokyopop brand worldwide.

“This partnership takes us one step closer to realizing our dream of merging the leading edge of manga entertainment with Hollywood.”
