Gameslab Leeds gives over £150,000 to local companies

The Gameslab Leeds programme, which launched in November 2016 has today announced that £157,000 of grants has been awarded to nine companies in the area.

The programme, created by Creative England, will see the creation and safeguarding of up to 40 jobs with nearly another 20 expected to be created. There will also be 10 research partnerships for universities and academics by 2019.

The companies receiving finance are BetaJester, Ocean Spark Studios, D M Media, Cooperative Innovations (trading as Barog Games Lab), Torchbearer Interactive, Gentleman of Science, One to One Development Trust, Fierce Kaiju, New Moon Games, Twelve Oaks Software, Red Kite Games, Enchantainment and GasLight Games.

Three of the companies, BetaJester, Ocean Spark Studios and D M Media will be showcased at the Be More Leeds event as part of the Be More Creative series of events from Creative England

"Gameslab has proven itself to be a tangible and practical force in developing and driving the gaming industry in Leeds forward," said Creative England director of content, Solomon Nwabueze. "The results to date have been fantastic. Be More Leeds is an opportunity for the companies to showcase their work so far, and demonstrate what they’ve been able to achieve with Creative England identifying their potential, and fully supporting their work.

"It is paramount that innovative and disruptive start-ups and SMEs across the digital sector get funding at this crucial stage in their growth, to ensure that these highly creative independents don’t get lost or left behind. We select the companies that we invest in very carefully; we’re working to support the creative economy outside of London, driving inclusive growth by nurturing fascinating IP."
