Publisher to use Epicâ??s engine for unannounced title

Destineer signs up for UE3

Destineer, the American publisher founded by former executive vice president of Bungie Peter Tamte, has become the latest company to license Epic’s Unreal Engine 3.

The publisher will be using the engine for a forthcoming title, but are remaining tight lipped on any details – suggesting only that the game will be for a genre in which “you wouldn’t expect UE3 to be used.”

"The Unreal Engine 3 is an impressively versatile piece of technology, and we are very excited to utilize it for our unannounced project. The engine is performing marvellously and Epic’s support has been top-notch,” said Tamte.

Explaining that usage of UE3 outside of the FPS genre is something Epic are keen to promote, Epic vice president Mark Rein added: “We’re excited to be working with Destineer. They’re doing some innovative things with Unreal Engine 3 that people might not expect to see. We’ve been encouraging companies to use their imagination and think outside the box with Unreal Engine 3, and it is exciting to see that the message is starting to pay off.”
