CyberConnect2 to open Montreal studio, self-publish next game

Naruto studio CyberConnect2 is to expand its presence to Canada with the launch of a new office.

“It’s a complete development studio,” Hiroshi Matsuyama said of the planned Montreal location to Famitsu (via Siliconera).

“We’re in the midst of worldwide developments, and I thought ‘We might need some blue-eyed samurai’ about our first phase of expanding outside.

“I believe there are still many foreigners that would like to have a shot at Japanese-style creativity.”

Matsuyama added that the developer would also move into self-publishing, by bringing its upcoming shooter, codenamed Venom, to market itself.

“It’s a new game,” he explained. “We have the tentative title of ‘CyberConnect Creative (CCC)’ within the company for it.

“It’s been 20 years since the founding of the company, and it’s CyberConnect2’s very first self-published project. It’s a completely original title.”

Matsuyama went on to explain that the game was yet to be confirmed for a retail release, but would come to both console and PC.

“Several titles are in the works that we plan to continue and link the deliveries that we have planned for the world,” he said.

“There are no details for now, but the supported platforms are PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam.

“We haven’t decided on whether it’ll be exclusive to downloads, but I believe that the key to victory is about download sales.”
