Console and PC game revenues to decline by 12% by 2019

The growth of mobile gaming will erode the console and PC games market by 12 per cent over the next five years.

That’s according to Juniper Research which says that the sector revenues will decline from $46.5bn to $41bn by 2019. Despite this, console and PC games will still account for over 50 per cent of the overall market.

It says that PC software sales will exceed console software sales over the period, driven by titles such as Dota 2 and League of Legends.

The PC & Console Games: Trends, Opportunities, and Vendor Strategies 2014–2019 report also predicts that while PS4 and Xbox One will provide a short-term boost this effect will slow as we get further into the cycle.

Also predicted is the arrival of PS5 and the Next Xbox in 2019.

A 30 per cent boom in Cloud gaming should see the sector worth an estimated $1bn by 2019 whereas the market share commended by dedicated handhelds is expected to dwindle to as low as two per cent.
