Formal reveal of Microsoft’s Mojang acquisition set for Monday – report

Microsoft’s rumoured impending deal to acquire Minecraft developer Mojang could be announced as early as Monday, according to a new report.

Reuters cites a source briefed on the matter” that claims the acquisition’s formal unveiling is set for when the upcoming work week kicks off, adding that the total purchase price has raised to $2.5bn.

That’s half a billion up from what was originally reported, meaning Minecraft creator Notch’s personal take has likely risen from the previously rumoured $1.6bn.

Word of the buyout broke via a Wall Street Journal article last week, which indicated the deal was close to being finalized. One industry analyst called the deal a perfect fit” for Microsoft.
