(N.B. The monthly games chart is based on titles released and reviewed in the last month. The apps chart is based on titles reviewed over the last three months. Hence, this is not a cumulative chart and earlier released titles may have higher scores.)
The year 2013 has truly started with a bang for iPad gamers, as the January iPad Qi game chart duly demonstrates. Joe Danger takes pole position this month, with its maker, Hello Games, wowing critics with a carefully considered re-imagining of its modern-day console gem. This breezy stunt bike platformer has been carefully re-engineered for the iPad... and you can tell. Hundreds, meanwhile, fully deserves its second place spot in the January chart on account of its beautifully abstract and minimalist puzzler gameplay. It's a bit weird and a bit vague, but you just try putting it down. Down in sixth place, Paladin Studios's Momonga Pinball Adventures brings the humble game of pinball bang up to date. It takes the flipper controls of the classic game and places them in a luscious 3D adventure starring an adorable fluffy creature. Kumobius's Time Surfer brings up the rear courtesy of a potent blend of Tiny Wings-like endless swooping and a nifty time-rewind feature.
January's iPad Qi app chart goes to show that we all want to make surfing the web on our tablets that little bit easier. Sitting pretty in first spot, you see, is Rockmelt, which has impressed many with its labour-saving approach to browsing on your iPad. It's never been easier to get to the web and social content you're interested in. Farther down the leaderboard, we have Plex by, errr, Plex. This nifty piece of software lets you stream your music, pictures, and videos from your home computer straight to your handset. In eighth place, we find Archives, which successfully shrugs off its dull name and expertly unzips or opens any file type you can throw at it. Finally, in tenth spot, we have Ziner. Yes, it's another Google Reader client, but it's one of the best you can get. It's all about that incredibly tidy interface, baby.
We'll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which iPad games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the iPad Quality Index now.
Know of a great reviews site that should be included?
If you own or know a reputable apps review site that should be added to the iPad Quality Index, then pop along to our instructions for getting listed.
