Thumbstar donate Games Journalism Prize

Liverpool, UK– 11 ^th December  2012 - Mobile games developer and publisher, Thumbstar Games, is honoured to be associated with the Games Journalism Prizes, the new global prizes to recognise the best writing about videogames. Thumbstar has donated the prize of£1000, which will be awarded to the best piece of games journalism (or a charity of his or her choice) written in English and published for the first time between January 1 ^st  and December 31 ^st 2012. The winners will be announced on 1 ^st February 2013.

The prize is intended to encourage excellence in video game reportage and highlight great writing to bring it to a wider audience. The judging panel is made up of professional journalists and writers with many years experience, including Orange Prize-winning author Naomi Alderman, Gamasutra editor Leigh Alexander, Gamespot editor Guy Cocker, RockPaperShotgun founder Kieron Gillen, New Statesman deputy editor Helen Lewis, IGN editor Keza MacDonald, and Edge editor Alex Wiltshire.

Games journalism is the heart and soul of the video games industry and what Games Journalism Prizes is doing is an absolute good. Dan Griliopoulos, Games Journalism Prizes Advisory Committee member said:

"Obviously, the kudos of having your writing recognised by your peers should be reward enough for any writer, but starving artists have to pay the rent on that garrett somehow, so we're very happy that Thumbstar has chosen to donate this money. We've decided that the thousand pounds will go straight to the winner of the best piece chosen by all the judges, without even resting in our bank accounts. We're tempted to call it The Grand Prize. "
