Former Dennis CEO brings wealth of top flight publishing experience to one of the UK’s fastest-growing consumer specialist publishers Imagine Publishing has today announced the appointment of former Dennis Publishing CEO Alistair Ramsay as non-executive Chairman effective immediately. Ramsay will work closely with founders Damian Butt, Mark Kendrick and Steven Boyd to drive the company’s acquisition and overseas growth strategy.
Alistair Ramsay joined Dennis in 1982 and was made Chief Executive Officer in 1992, a post he held until 2005. During that time he presided over the acquisition or launch of many of Dennis’ prominent titles, including Maxim, Auto Express, Evo, The Week and PC Pro. Ramsay also launched Dennis in the US (recently sold to Quadrangle Capital Partners for $121m), and developed a successful worldwide licensing business.
In addition to being Chairman of Imagine Publishing, Alistair Ramsay is also currently non-exec Chairman of Imagine’s magazine distributor, Seymour, and subscriptions marketing and fulfillment company, Dovetail.
Alistair Ramsay said of the appointment:“I am really looking forward to getting involved with Imagine, as they are really well placed to further develop the business. They have strong publications and market positions, a talented and proven management team and supportive financial backers. For a Company barely two years old they have enjoyed a meteoric start.”
Imagine founder and Managing Director, Damian Butt, added:“Alistair’s experience in consumer magazine publishing will be invaluable to Imagine’s future success, and I am extremely pleased to welcome him to the Board.”
“Dennis is a company we have always respected and Alistair was at the heart of it for more than 12 years, and responsible for the creation and development of many of the UK’s best magazine brands. Mark, Steve and I are very much looking forward to working with Alistair to drive Imagine forward in both print and online.”
Imagine Publishing is one of the UK’s fastest growing consumer specialist publishers. Formed in May 2005, it now publishes 20 magazines and 20 websites in the videogames, computing, entertainment and photography markets. An Imagine magazine is purchased every ten seconds.
