More than 1,200 years of game time accumulated by users
The hugely successful ArmA II zombie mod DayZ has hit more than one million unique players.
The hugely popular survival shooter has taken the industry by storm since its release, increasing the sales of Bohemia’s ArmA sequel and making it one of the hottest selling titles on Steam.
As well as surpassing the 1m user landmark, players have jointly clocked up more than 1,207 years of game time.
Over two billion zombies have been killed, whilst accumulative distance walked has passed more than 1.3bn km.
Starting out as an experiment in game design and “emotion generation”, creator Dean Hall recently told Develop that he wanted to see the mod turned into a full standalone game.
The developer said the game had become so popular that it was becoming impractical to run as a mod, with active user numbers rivalling the likes of Blizzard’s Diablo III.
You can read our recent interview with the game’s creator, where he talks about how the game became a success and what the future holds for the title, here.
