Japanese mobile gaming giant snaps up social developer Paprika Labs
Giant Japanese mobile gaming company GREE has acquired social and web development studio Paprika Labs for an undisclosed amount.
GREE's plans for the studio include adding Paprika's existing library to its own 'GREE Platform'. In a move some may interpret as a user acquisition purchase, GREE will also be in a position to claim Paprika's 150 million strong community of Facebook monthly active game users.
As reported by Develop's sister-site Mobile Entertainment, in May the Japanese gaming business faced a troubled future when officials moved to outlaw the certain freemium models. However, despite a sharp decline in shares, GREE's thirst for acquisition continues to be quenched.
The Paprika Labs purchase follows GREE's recent $210 million Funzio buy.
