Mass Effect 3 ending 'may change' amid protests

'Retake Mass Effect' campaign raises $67,000 for charity

Flagship EA studio BioWare is deliberating whether it should change the narrative to one of its biggest games ever, following unexpected protest from disgruntled Mass Effect 3 customers who want an alternate ending to the sci-fi epic.

An online campaign, calling on BioWare to release a second-take ending, has raised an extraordinary $67,000 for charity in a matter of days.

BioWare, responding on its Facebook page, said it was “actively and seriously taking all player feedback into consideration and has ruled nothing out”.

The studio added: “At this time we are still collecting and considering your feedback and have not made a decision regarding requests to change the ending. Your feedback and opinions are of the utmost importance to us.”

Organisers of the online campaign believe that Mass Effect 3 “does not provide the wide range of possible outcomes that we have come to expect” from the series.

But they add: “We would like to dispel the perception that we are angry or entitled. We simply wish to express our hope that there could be a different direction for a series we have all grown to love.”

Mass Effect 3 sold nearly one million copies globally in a single day, buoyed by rave reviews for the title
