Company wants to clarify 'an exploit is not a hack' following ID theft
Sony said it is repairing the PSN password reset page after it was discovered to be vulnerable to an uncomplicated hack.
“We temporarily took down the PSN password reset page," a statement from the firm reads.
"Consumers who haven’t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3.
“Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up."
Sony said “contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved”.
Instead, the hack into the password reset system should be termed a “URL exploit”, the company added.
Yesterday, a security flaw had been exposed in the process that resets PlayStation Network passwords.
The extraordinary mishap was another damaging PR fumble for Sony as it tries to restore its reputation as a security-focused company.
