'...iOS devices could be capable of Unreal DX11 technology in two years'
Apple devices could in two years be powerful enough to host high-end next-generation graphics, Epic Games’ Mark Rein has told Develop.
The iPhone firm’s rapid progression of mobile CPU and GPU technology was most recently demonstrated with the iPad 2. That device adds in a dual-core Apple A5 processor, and was famously said by Apple to be “up to nine times faster than the previous iPad”.
Rein, the vice president of Epic Games, told Develop that “if Apple continues on this scale, they’ll have a device that can run this [the Unreal Engine DX11 demo] in a couple of years.”
That DX11 demo, which you can see in the video below, turned heads at GDC this year due to its bleeding-edge capabilities.
“The DX11 demo, that’s our love letter to hardware manufacturers. We’re able to give people another road map,” Rein said.
