All developers to soon pay a 30 per cent cut
[Update: Facebook has confirmed the rumour - Facebook Credits will be enforced from July 1st]
The small army of Facebook developers may be ready for a mutiny, if a news report about compulsory Facebook Credits is to be believed.
The social network titan has begun informing developers that Facebook Credits will soon be a mandatory currency for games it hosts, according to TechCrunch sources.
Facebook Credit transactions gives the social network a 30 per cent cut, leaving developers with the remaining 70.
Making the credits system compulsory has wide ramifications across the social network – developers’ margins will be squeezed at the benefit of Facebook.
Some argue, however, that a universal credit will better encourage Zynga enthusiasts to pay on smaller. Unknown games.
Making Facebook Credits mandatory has been a long-feared prediction by many Facebook developers. The biggest players – Zynga, Playdom, Playfish, and CrowdStar — have all been lured into the scheme in a private deal with Facebook.
