Level-5 strikes Capcom ?co-development? deal

New cohort for Professor Layton developer and longstanding Nintendo partner

Professor Layton developer Level-5 is collaborating with Capcom for a new project, having recently detached itself from a snug relationship with Nintendo.

Capcom boss Keiji Inafune confirmed the rumours of a collaboration with the Japanese studio, though wasn’t willing to detail the projects.

He did suggest the two are in the process of co-development, and in an interview with Diamond Online, Inafune extended much praise to Level-5 developer Akihiro Hino.

“Right now, the two of us, with our staff, are working together on some truly interesting things. Even though Mr. Hino is younger, he's someone I respect,” Inafune said.

“I wanted to try working with him, so I contacted him. The thing I most respect about Hino is his work ethic. Before I met Hino, I had confidence in the amount of work I was doing, and even thought that maybe I was the hardest working person in the game industry. But after meeting him, I thought I’m probably not number one.”

Level-5 is thought to be interested in self-publishing its future games, including Professor Layton, in the west. The developer recently opened a US office and has plans to open a studio in Europe.
