Martin de Ronde and Michiel Mol launch social and online group Vanguard
The two original co-founders of Killzone studio Guerrilla Games have reunited and formed a new studio focused on online and digital games.
Martin de Ronde and Michiel Mol will spearhead their new studio, named Vanguard Entertainment.
The studio is a merger of production company Karami and PSN/XBLA developer W! Games – of which the pair had interests in.
de Ronde and Mol want the new studio to work between the social and traditional console gaming spaces – two sectors that are merging, the pair believe.
“Over the past few years, we have been closely following the rapid rise of social network games, browser based games and new online business models associated with these platforms,” said de Ronde.
“We also see that the market for console games forms the heart of our industry still in terms of revenue and state of the art production values. We feel both these market segments will be rapidly converging over the coming years, rather than competing with each other, and with Vanguard we want to be at the forefront of this development.”
Vanguard already has several projects in the pipeline, the group says.
“It will be Vanguard’s mission to capitalize on the need for new types of online content on consoles, which it will be doing with games based on original IP,” de Ronde added.
Vanguard’s founders both left Guerrilla after selling the studio SCEE in 2005.
