SNP welcomes ?progressive? tax breaks

The SNP has welcomed the tax break commitments for the games development industry promised in the 2010 Budget.

In an online Budget debate, SNP Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Sustainable Growth John Swinney singled out the tax break promises made by Alistair Darling as potentially beneficial for Scottish games studios.

“The commitment to consult on tax breaks for the video game industry are a positive development, especially given Scotland's leading role in that sector,” he said.

Games development is a currently large industry in Scotland, already boasting respected names like Digital Goldfish, Denki, Dynamo Games, Realtime Worlds, Rockstar North and Ruffian Games.
