Latest update adds shelving and enhanced offline working
Perforce has just released version 2009.2 of its eponymous SCM.
The latest update's main new feature is shelving, which allows developers to cache modified files on the Perforce Server without having to check them in as a versioned change - i.e. for sharing pending changes for approval, or work-in-progress changes with other team mates.
The SCM tool's offline mode has also been enhanced so that all changes, such as file edits, deletions and additions, will now be actioned when connection is restored, and changes can be scheduled sequentially.
"We are constantly working to respond to our customers' needs, and this release offers an array of important new capabilities that appeal to both large and small development teams," said Kathy Baldanza, vice president of engineering at Perforce Software.
"Shelving improves team collaboration and facilitates code review, additional offline capabilities make users more productive while working disconnected from their servers, and we've added real-time replication capabilities to improve overall system performance and data protection."
