PS3 now ?a key platform? for BioWare

Co-founder Greg Zeschuk says the studio is positioned for future PS3 projects

BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk has outlined a revised strategy for PS3 development, stating that Sony’s console is now “a key platform”.

The EA-owned outfit has hitherto built its reputation with games for Microsoft’s Windows and Xbox platforms. Titles such as Knights of the Old Republic and Mass Effect have often been praised by Microsoft as a key differentiator between the Xbox and PlayStation game libraries.

But BioWare’s newest title, Dragon Age: Origins, is the first BioWare game to appear on a PlayStation platform since MDK 2 landed on the PS2 in 2001.

Now, as revealed in a comprehensive interview with Joystiq, Zeschuk discussed at length BioWare’s renewed outlook for PS3 development.

“It was great going through the experience of making Dragon Age, getting familiar with and understanding the PS3,” he said.

The PS3 edition of Dragon Age was co-developed with Texas-based Edge of Reality, but Zeschuk confirmed that work on the console will also be handled in-house going forward.

“We think it's one of the key platforms, obviously, so we're definitely going to be doing PS3,” he said.

“Again, every platform is different, but now I think we're at the position where future PS3 stuff will be really solid.”

Zeschuk denied that BioWare will port its key franchise, Mass Effect, to the PS3.
