Developer's CV cites unannounced project underway at BioWare
Canadian studio BioWare may be working on an original IP project, a developer’s CV suggests.
If true, BioWare’s undisclosed project would imply EA is still backing original IP – a philosophy the publisher has held since John Riccitiello took on the role as CEO back in 2007, though one which has proven risky in recent times.
The speculation arises from a public resume of one Daniel Roy, whose LinkedIn profile claims he had worked at BioWare between Jan 2008 and June 2009, appointed as a senior producer for an "unreleased original IP".
The suggestion in Roy’s resume (spotted by anonymous industry sleuth ‘Superannuation’) has not been confirmed, though it does sit in line with EA’s policy of balancing core franchises with original IP.
BioWare has in recent times delivered products such as Star Wars KOTOR, Mass Effect and Jade Empire.
EA completed the acquisition of both BioWare and Pandemic back in 2008, having put over $800 million on the table.
Pandemic was confirmed as having closed down last week as part of EA’s ongoing staff cut operations. EA has pledged to reduce its development workforce by 900 staff.
Whether the publisher wants to back new IP when in such a tumultuous condition remains to be seen.
