myGDC killed off for Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter integration; replaced with GDC Vault
The organisers of the Game Developers Conference have announced the 'decommissioning' of the myGDC social network.
In essence, the social site designed to connect GDC attendees with friends lists, meeting planner, forum and other features has been killed off in favour of using established sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter.
myGDC will go offline on October 12th - those that did use it are urged to retrieve any data or details before it is shut down.
However the service is to be replaced with the GDC Vault "the virtual extension of the Game Developers Conferences, enabling learning via audio, video, and slide presentations of previous GDC's, available to All Access pass holders".
GDC Vault is set to open property in the coming months but is already live at gdcvault.com.
It's a smart move: instead of trying to draw industry personnel away from other social sites it is using the most popular established third-party sites to promote the event, with dedicated official GDC areas at Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. Hit those links to find out more.
