Codemasters in 'far-reaching' morpheme deal

UK developer will use NaturalMotion’s animation middleware on a long-term basis
Codemasters has sealed a “far‐reaching” partnership deal with animation middleware group NaturalMotion.
The longstanding British developer now holds a long-term license agreement to use NaturalMotion’s morpheme animation middleware engine.
The studio says it will use morpheme for “upcoming titles and future game development”.
Morpheme is designed to allow developers to author and preview blends, blend trees and transition graphs in real time. The solution also introduces full integration with NVIDIA PhysX technology, encompassing graphical authoring in the morpheme:connect tool, as well as in the animation runtime engine.
Andy Payne, VP of sales at NaturalMotion, said the new partnership “signals a great day for British videogame technology and development.”
NaturalMotion, the company behind the popular euphoria engine, is headquartered in the UK city of Oxford, some fifty miles away from Codemasters’ offices.
The morpheme engine has been licensed to the likes of Activision, THQ and, very recently, South Korean MMO specialists WeMade.
Codemasters CTO Bryan Marshall said the firm had selected NaturalMotion’s morpheme following a thorough evaluation period.
“Animation quality and performance have become extremely important for creating compelling game content,” he added.
“We believe morpheme will allow us to push the limits of believable characters in games. It perfectly augments our own EGOTM game technology, providing the potential for some of the most realistic and exciting games on the market”.
