SCEA chief insists the PlayStation Motion Controller is more flexible than Nintendo’s Wii remote
As well as revealing his disdain for sensitive info leaks, SCEA CEO Jack Tretton has also suggested that the PS3’s prototype motion controller is more flexible than the Wii’s.
Speaking in an interview with news group CNBC Tretton compared Nintendo’s revolutionary Wii remote with Sony’s own post-Sixaxis motion controller.
“Personally, it’s very difficult for me to perceive God of War 3 being played with the Wii controller,” he said. “It’s a different experience that doesn’t lend itself to certain types of games. [But] I think our [motion] controller can be used with every game that’s on the system now and every game we’re working on.”
Tretton added that it was “absolutely conceivable” that Sony would establish backward compatibility with the PS3’s prototype controller, meaning that games available on the PS3 right now could be given a fresh new approach with motion control.
If this sounds familiar, it’s because it is. Nintendo recently released a new series of motion controlled Wii games that were essentially ports of old Gamecube games.
Those titles needed a little software programming in order to work with the Wii remote, yet the Wii was of course developed before Nintendo decided to re-release old games.
