Californian developer cites concerns with the final build, delays launch by several weeks to implement new features
Cryptic Studios has delayed the release for its PC and Xbox 360 MMO Champions Online due to quality concerns.
The Californian developer has released a statement revealing that the game will need an additional several weeks of development for it “to be as good as it possibly can be at launch.” The release date has now been pushed back from July 14 to September 1.
“Through our constant dialogue with our vocal and supportive community of beta testers, we quickly realized that in order to implement certain features that we all considered important the development of Champions Online would require more time,” said executive producer Bill Roper.
Back in December, Atari took a big step in its ambitions to be a leading publisher of online games when it acquired Cryptic Studios for an initial fee of $28 million.
At the time, Atari CEO David Gardner said that the acquisition gives Atari “an outstanding creative organisation, with a proven track record of success in the fast growing MMO category.”
