A retrospective look at the biggest game development deals of the year
Despite the pressure of the economic downturn in 2008, the year has seen plenty of acquisitions and venture capitalist funding, and Develop has compiled a list of the ten most important.
As well as EA’s recent interest and investment in Korea, the round-up includes Big Fish, which secured $83 million in financing, and Realtime Worlds, which enjoyed a $50 million funding boost.
Along with Amazon’s acquisition of Reflexive, and the MTV and Harmonix partnership that resulted in $300 million in bonuses, the biggest news on the list focuses on the iPhone and App Store, which goes a long way to doing away with deals all together, rekindling dreams of self-publishing success in the process.
