3D software firm's AREA site to serve as online venue complimented by live events in North America
Autodesk's 3December event, which celebrates the world of 3D art and animation, returns for its ninth year running this week.
The event is designed to give users of Autodesk's software - which includes 3DS Max, Maya, MotionBuilder and now also Mudbox - the opportunity to share their work, learn and network.
“Members of the 3D community around the world are continuously breaking down barriers and raising the bar with amazing computer-generated work in film, television, games and all forms of visual communication,” said Marc Petit, senior vice president, Autodesk Media & Entertainment.
“Every year, we hold 3December to honour these artists and celebrate the amazing art they create with our solutions.”
Autodesk's AREA community website will serve as the centrepiece for the event in 2007, with the online resource boasting a variety of free content, including videos, tutorials, galleries and downloads to more than 150,000 registered members. Artists can register to become a member of the community for free at www.the-area.com.
It's not all online action, though - Autodesk is lining up a number of live events and Animation User Group Association chapter meetings.
Three showcases are to take place across North America. Today Bill Harper of The Dreamhive will showcase work created in Mudbox, and Turner Studios will demonstrate recently completed broadcast graphics, as well as work created by local artists, in Atlanta. Tomorrow, December 4th, Autodesk will feature presentations by Autodesk principal scientist Duncan Brinsmead, and Dave Cardwell, co-creator of Mudbox, at an event in Toronto. Lastly, on Thursday December 6th, Sony Pictures Imageworks will present its work on the recently released stereoscopic film Beowulf at an event in Los Angeles.
Meanwhile the Autodesk Animation User Group Association (AAUGA) chapters will hold 3December meetings in numerous cities, including London, Dallas and Minneapolis.
Registration is required for all the 3December events - for details and to register point your browser here.
