Squad-based action real time strategy game is in development

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2014 — Deadhold is a squad-based action real time strategy game by veteran game developers who have worked on titles such as the Borderlands series, Battlefield 2, Frontlines: Fuel of War, Homefront and Myth 3. The game is currently in development with a PC multiplayer release planned for Q1 2015 and other platforms including Mac and Linux for future releases.

Combining elements of traditional real-time tactics games with the action real time strategy (ARTS) and multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) genres, the game features a dark fantasy Viking inspired setting with different races and abilities, a stoic Norse empire, exploding Goblins, enraged Frost Giants and a horde of mutated horrors.

Doug Zartman, former Bungie PR Director, said, "I'm excited by Deadhold's ambition to bridge the gap between tactical RTS and MOBA. The careful maneuvering, formations, use of terrain and unit specialties that players loved in Myth, plus the frenetic back-and-forth of a game like LoL promises to be a powerful combination indeed. Cannot wait to play this."

Deadhold eschews base building and resource collection and instead focuses on squad customization, positioning and tactics. Combat is easy to play but hard to master. The initial focus of development will be on multiplayer and developing the core gameplay systems for maximum fun and robustness; co-op and single-player gameplay will follow.
