NEW YORK, May 29, 2014 – The Major League Gaming (MLG) executive team gains another video game industry veteran today adding Jared Gerritzen as Vice President of Publisher & Developer Relations. With nearly two decades of games industry experience focused on the art and craft of video game creation and a deep knowledge of the space, Gerritzen joins MLG from Zombie Studios where he most recently headed development for the Blacklight Series. As MLG’s VP of Publisher & Developer Relations, he will focus on management of publisher and developer relationships as MLG continues to broaden and strengthen its position as the global leader in eSports while helping partners benefit from MLG’s competitive gaming solutions.
Gerritzen will help publishing partners and game developers leverage MLG: Play, the largest cross platform online gaming tournament system with 9 million registered users across the globe; the MLG API that enables established and independent developers to track gameplay functionality; and MLG's Agora Games division's Hydra Studio that provides cross platform support, online services and tools for console, PC, iOS, Android, and Unity3D game developers and publishers.
Hydra powers online gaming communities for a large array of games from partners like Microsoft, Activision, WB and more, and currently tracks gameplay statistics for over 120 million gamers around the world. The system offers add-on modules to enable data-driven social networking features like tournaments, user profiles, community leaderboards, achievements, broadcasts, player matching and global accounts that have proven to extend the life of a game.
"Throughout my career I have been closely monitoring the evolution of MLG as its grown to become the leader in eSports and I understand how developers and publishers can benefit from competitive gaming and the solutions that MLG offers,” said Jared Gerritzen, VP of Publisher and Developer Relations. “I am excited to join the MLG team to help evangelize the brand within the industry and introduce new and existing partners to the power of MLG and eSports to extend the livelihood of their games and better engage with their communities.”
“At MLG we are dedicated to building the most thoughtful, smart and established executive team to further our position in the industry. Jared is the perfect addition to the team based on his deep knowledge of the game development process and the industry as a whole,” said Sundance DiGiovanni, co-founder and CEO of MLG. “I look forward to working closely with Jared to focus on growing the roster of MLG partners to include even more tremendous game publishers and indie developers.”
Over the last nearly 20 years, Gerritzen has worked on 17 titles and shipped 10 games. Prior to developing the Blacklight Series, he led the creation of Phantom Army with the makers of Crossfire and Daylight, a survivor horror game and the first to use Unreal 4 technologies. He has extensive experience with developing back end technology having worked closely with international publishers on microtransaction theories with multiple free-to-play games. Throughout his robust career he has continued to push his professional skill-set as far as possible working on every aspect of the development process as a concept artist, 3d artist, fx artist, level designer, game designer, and project lead.
