Strategic Investment Underscores the Promise of Rumble’s Premium Game Quality, Multiplatform Publishing Approach and Free-to-Play Business Model
SAN MATEO, Calif. – Oct. 29, 2013 – Rumble Entertainment, a leading developer and publisher of premium, multiplatform free-to-play games, today announced that it has closed a $17.5 million Series B round of financing led by strategic partner Nexon, a worldwide leader in free-to-play online games. TriplePoint Capital, original investors Google Ventures and Khosla Ventures, and additional strategic investors also participated in the round, bringing Rumble’s total funding to date to over $35 million. Rumble will use the financing and strategic relationships to fuel growth and expand its portfolio of rich, immersive games and bring them to more devices and players everywhere. The new round also underscores Rumble’s leadership in the revolution to bring highly accessible, blockbuster quality free-to-play games to browsers and mobile devices.

Founded in Korea in 1994, Nexon pioneered immersive free-to-play games, setting a new standard in which play is free and players have the option to purchase in-game items to enhance their experience. Nexon currently services more than 60 online games in over 100 countries.

Fresh off the release of its first game KingsRoad in open beta, Rumble clearly has a hit. KingsRoad is available on the web and Facebook and currently boasts more than one million monthly active players with average session lengths over an hour. Players are taking full advantage of the game’s multiplayer features, with 40% of players joining in real-time cooperative play daily. Fulfilling the team's multiplatform publishing promise, Rumble plans to launch KingsRoad soon on tablets and in localized languages.
Rumble is led by an accomplished group of industry veterans with deep social games and publishing expertise spanning the gaming world, from critically-acclaimed MMOs and console games to hit social and mobile titles. The team includes developers, executives and product leaders previously with Zynga, Activision, BioWare, Blizzard, Playdom, Electronic Arts, Turbine, LucasArts, and RockYou.
Rumble’s announced slate of premium games includes KingsRoad, a medieval action role-playing game; Ballistic, a fast paced first-person shooter; and Nightmare Guardians, a multiplayer tower defense game.
