Tale of Tales wins an IGF award (at last)

Luxuria Superbia is the winner of the 2014 Independent Games Festival Nuovo Award. To celebrate the occasion, the game will be on sale at a 50% discount on tale-of-tales.com, Steam, Google Play, the App Store and OUYA for the whole week (until Sunday).

Luxuria Superbia is the fourth Tale of Tales finalist in the IGF and the third in the Nuovo category. The Path was nominated for Excellence in Visual Art in 2008, The Graveyard for Nuovo in 2009 and Bientôt l'été also for Nuovo in 2013.

"We were getting quite comfortable with not winning in the IGF," say designers Auriea Harvey & Michaël Samyn, "Being nominated feels very rewarding as recognition. But never winning made us feel more dangerous.

Which is flattering at our age. That is all over now."

Luxuria Superbia is an abstract and colorful celebration of the joys of sensuality and spirituality. Through the metaphor of touching flowers to make them blush, Luxuria Superbia creates a delicate intimacy seldom seen in videogames.


Luxuria Superbia is the first Nuovo award winner without a familiar "big pixel" retro style. The Nuovo jury this year was the most feminine in the 6 year history of the award (35% of the jury members identify as female, as opposed to 0 to 10% in previous years). Co-designer Auriea Harvey is the second black person and the fifth woman to win one of the

133 (main competition) awards the IGF has handed out in its 15 year history. That makes her the first black woman to win an IGF award. And Tale of Tales is the first company from the Benelux to win an IGF award.

Coincidentally, the Independent Games Festival is the same age as the collaboration between Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn. In fact, they met for the first time in person -after a passionate exchange in cyberspace- in the very city of San Francisco at the very moment when the Game Developers Conference takes place. On March 18th the couple celebrated its 15th anniversary.

Luxuria Superbia also won an honorable mention from the International Mobile Game Awards on the 20th of March and was a finalist in IndieCade back in October. Next week the game is up for an award in the AMAZE festival in Berlin.

Meanwhile, work is continuing at Tale of Tales on the recently announced new project "Sunset", a first-person exploration of the penthouse apartment of an eccentric recluse. The game is set in an infamous fictional tropical totalitarian state, in 1972.
