Strong overseas earnings drive Com2us Q1 results

  • Recorded overseas sales of over 100 billion KRW for six consecutive quarters
  • Expansion of Summoners War IP, push into eSports, and suite of new games to sustain continued growth
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 12, 2017) – Com2us today announced its 2017 Q1 results, marking another robust quarter of earnings driven by strong overseas sales.

For the sixth consecutive quarter, Com2us has surpassed 100 billion KRW in total revenue and continues to exhibit strength globally with 89% (106.6 billion KRW) of its total earnings from overseas sales. 

The company recorded 120.3 billion KRW in sales, 50.1 billion KRW in operating profit, and 36.7 billion KRW in net profit. Com2us also exceeded 50 billion KRW in QoQ operating profit for the second consecutive year with a high operating margin of 42% as a result of the company’s sound profit structure.

Com2us’ consistent performance in the highly competitive mobile games space reflects the strength of new and existing titles in its games lineup that have built a loyal player base. Its flagship title Summoners War represents the company’s commitment to offering players a premium mobile gaming experience and providing its community with industry-leading customer service. 

Now in its third year, the hit RPG has become the first South Korean mobile game to surpass 1 trillion KRW in lifetime revenue and is expected to reach US $1 billion in June with no signs of slowing down. Stellar earnings from key titles MLB 9 Innings 17 and Golf Star have also given the company’s Q1 results a significant boost.

2017 Gameplan

Plans are currently underway to expand Com2us’ key IPs beyond the mobile space through eSports, merchandising, and Film/TV media in order to maintain its position as one of the leading mobile games company in the world. As the company’s marquee title, Summoners War will also continue to receive substantive content updates which will include Guild Sieges and game modes optimized for eSports.

Push into eSports

On June 24, Com2us will partner with Amazon and Twitch to launch a Summoners War US tournament during the K-Con event in New York City. Following this event, the company will invite players from all over the world for a global tournament at an as-of-yet determined date and location.

Summoners War MMORPG and beyond

In early 2018, a new mobile MMORPG based on the Summoners War universe will be released worldwide. The company has also formed an IP strategy team to oversee the expansion of the Summoners War brand into other areas such as Film/TV and merchandising. In addition to the company’s collaboration with MLB for its MLB 9 Innings series, a partnership with Activision to develop a mobile game of its 'Skylanders' franchise is currently slated for an early 2018 launch. Meanwhile, upcoming 2017 releases such as tactical action RPG Majestia, anime-inspired golf game Birdie Crush, a VR version of Ace Fishing, and Heroes War 2 will look to sustain the company’s growth.
