[Press Release For Immediate Release]
Multimedia & interactive specialist David Varela has joined the Sidelines Agency. David was Narrative Designer and a scriptwriter for Sherlock: The Network, a game based on the global hit show, working with Steven Moffat and the A-list cast. The game is up for a Develop Award for Use of Narrative and Use of an Existing IP.
David script-edited (and wrote additional mission scripts for) Zombies, Run!, a chart-topping story-led fitness app that was nominated for a Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award and five Develop Awards.
He produced the world’s first console-based Alternate Reality Game (ARG), Xi, with nDreams. It was localised in five languages and distributed for free on the PlayStation 3, with elements running live online and in real life. David is probably best known for his work on ARG Perplex City. He wrote storylines, in-game websites and scripts. He also produced and directed audio and video content and helping to co-ordinate live events around the world. Perplex City won the Origin Vanguard Award for Most Innovative Game.
He has won several international awards for his film, radio and theatre scriptwriting and filmmaking.
David is a regular tutor for the Arvon Foundation’s “Writing for Games’ course. He’ll be speaking at this year’s Develop Conference about Sherlock: The Network on Tuesday as part of the Evolve sessions.
