Periscope Studio - videogame audio’s unique“one-stop-shop” innovators

NEWS RELEASE - 28th July 2011

With new offices, dedicated project managers, online project management and a raft of‘Top Secret’ AAA titles underway, Periscope is continuing its exciting expansion.

Periscope Studio emerged from their recording bunker in Hamburg in late June to relocate their management team to a new purpose built office just around the corner. This frees up‘a little space’, they said, for the new Core Soundtrack team and their production facilities, a wonder of understatement from the clever guys in charge as this expansion marks a dramatic move upwards for the studio.

Periscope Studio has grown exponentially since its launch in 2007, building their work in videogame audio solutions on their three pillars of service:“Agency”,“Audio” and“Technology” in their focus in becoming unique audio specialists within the videogames industry. Now, with over 105 commercial game projects under their belt and an average overall performance rating of 94%, determined by their 2010 online client feedback form, Periscope now offers complete audio production support for videogame projects of any size or budget from start to finish, covering everything from soundtracks to localisation and sound design.

Jan Werkmeister, Managing Director of Periscope Studio says,“Right from the founding of Periscope Studio we wanted to create a service of unparalleled‘audio-symmetry’, that is, from the moment a client briefs us on their project, we develop and manage their entire audio requirements completely, transparently and to the very highest quality. We adamantly believe that in-game audio - from the soundtrack to voice overs - is equally as important as the graphics or storyline. The primary benefit of having all of our services in-house and having all of our teams working closely together means that the overall artistic quality of the work is improved immensely, which ultimately adds enormous value to the projects and for our clients.”

Periscope Studio provides dedicated project managers for their clients and utilises online project management tools to enforce their‘real-time’ approach to audio development.? From Periscope’s experience, changes to a videogame project itself have continual knock-on effects to other areas of production, which can lead to significant delays. But Periscope’s‘agency-culture’ approach is designed to pre-empt these issues so everything is planned for if problems do occur.

Jan concludes,“We’re working on a number of AAA projects with our clients and they tell us that it is our overall approach which gives them the greatest reassurance. Our aim is to ensure that for every project we manage, be it a AAA console title or a casual browser game, all parties are fully coordinated and are all continually connected day by day, minute by minute. We leave nothing to chance which would affect the success of any project.”

Periscope Studio will be attending the DEVELOP conference in Brighton in July and Gamescom in Cologne in August and invites developers and publishers to find out more about their‘one-stop’ offering.
