London 11 August 2014
Octopus 8 studios have been busy this summer, working in coordination with four groups of students from Brunel University’s Game Design courses. With an aim for each team to get a game to market, and the project drawing to a close, all is on course for 100% successful releases for the games on Android devices, with iOS versions to follow later.
‘O8S’ have released two mobile games since their formation last year, the persistent touch title ‘Oddlight’ and ‘Upupup’. Once all of the Secret Summer games hit the market, the studio will have released six titles, a productive year by all accounts.
‘Cannon Cove’ and ‘Goblins’ launched on Friday 08 August 2014, with their political intrigue title “Behind the Crown’ to release a week later. The fourth title, Wild West inspired ‘Spell Spurs’ will launch late August/early September.
Chris Cox, the Chief Operating Officer for the studio has been working hard with the teams to get things through the finish line.
“What we have seen with these teams has exceeded every expectation for the project. From Concept through pitches to Rich (Barham, CEO), working with Justin (Parsler, the chief creative for O8S) and right through to testing with Jason (Hamer, the tech head for the studio) they have stuck with things, dedicated both to the project, but also to one another and the games. It’s been a fabulous opportunity for everyone, and I believe that the experience they have gained here has been unparalleled in giving them both insight, and the practical application of their skills.
Octopus 8 was founded last year to work with breakthrough talent and give opportunities to new blood seeking a way to break into the games industry. They take teams with concepts and ideas, plus the talent to make it happen and work with them throughout the process to get games to market.
