Monkey Tales Games Wins Jury&Audience Awards at MEDEA 2011

The games are recognized for innovation, excellence in production and pedagogical design

Brussels, November 28 th 2011. Larian Studios and Die Keure just added two exceptional new trophies to their hall of fame: the MEDEA 2011 main prize for Best Professionally Produced Educational Media in Europe, awarded by a jury of 54 education professionals from 22 countries, and the MEDEA 2011 Audience award.

During the awards ceremony at the 2011 European Media and Learning conference, the Monkey Tales Games series were lauded for innovation, excellence in production and pedagogical design, as well as for good practice in the use of media for education. This marks the first-ever occasion in the history of the awards that a videogame is recognized as a professional education tool, something that certainly sends a message to both the games and educational industry.

Larian has a decade of experience developing games for children audiences, but developing educational games that work has turned out to be quite challenging. Over the last years we’ve gained a wealth of new insights and these awards now show that we have found the right approach.” - says David Walgrave, executive producer of Monkey Tales.

The Monkey Tales Games series is a companion game series for the official school program. The games are based on proven didactic methods and 5 years of research and development involving teachers, schools and universities. Five math-focused games allow children aged 7 to 12 to train their math skills faster and better than with traditional approaches.

Parents can buy the games directly from www.monkeytalesgames.com and a free demo is also available.

Research and development on the series is continuing, with Die Keure and Larian planning to expand the range next year. A large-scale survey is being organized to measure the effectiveness of the Monkey Tales Games method, and the developers are actively looking for more teachers and schools to participate.
