- Asymmetric Multiplayer - VR-Gorilla vs multiple non-VR humans
- Best VR Game at the 2017 German Developer Awards
Cologne, Germany – December 7th, 2017: Late For Work - a VR Local Multiplayer game pitting a giant gorilla against up to 4 non-VR players - has won Best VR Game at the 2017 German Developer Awards. Developed by Salmi Games, the young studio from Munich Germany has followed their debut sleeper hit Ellipsis with a stunning entry in the VR Local Co-op genre.
"We are incredibly honored to receive this award, especially given the quality of the other games nominated. Even though we are still in Early Access, the positive response has been amazing. We are incredibly motivated to make Late For Work the best VR Local Multiplayer game possible", says studio-head Yacine Salmi.
In Late For Work, one VR player takes control of a giant gorilla in a fully destructible environment and faces off against up to 4 other non-VR players. Players take turn under the headset while the others join using gamepads on the same PC. The game has already received several major updates since its Early Access launch this summer with new game modes and maps released on a regular basis.
With a playful, minimalist art style and intuitive VR controls, Late For Work is accessible to players of all ages and bills itself as the perfect VR party game. No more standing around awkwardly waiting for your turn in VR.
"This award is a huge confidence boost for the whole team! VR is a challenging market, but we are committed to its long-term viability. We want to make great VR games and are investing accordingly, both in Late For Work and other unannounced projects", says Yacine.
Late For Work is currently available on Early Access in both the Steam and Oculus stores. The team would not comment on any potential plans for a PSVR release, however, Yacine added: "we're registered PS4 devs, we've got dev kits but right now we are focused on adding online multiplayer - it's the #1 requested feature from our fans".
Late For Work is scheduled for full release "sometime in 2018".
Salmi Games is a Munich-based VR studio, founded by Yacine Salmi (formerly of EA/Criterion Games, Sony/Evolution Studios and Havok). Their previous title Ellipsis has won critical praise, including winning Intel’s 2016 Game of the Year.
