Kick-off at Gameforge – Matchday: Football Manager for mobile devices announced

Exciting live text commentary & top club licences recreate stadium atmosphere

Karlsruhe, 25.07.2014 – Matchday: Football Manager is Gameforge’s upcoming management title for mobile devices based on iOS, Android and Windows Phone. Football management hopefuls can expect plenty of things to do, from creating their teams, to buying new players on the transfer market, right through to the highly versatile training and tactics options.

“Even though the German team’s fantastic victory in the World Cup down in Brazil is now history, the passion for football hasn’t died down,” states Andre Potgeter, CEO of Gameforge Mobile GmbH. “Thanks to its many tactical options and innovative commentary system, Matchday offers players an intuitive gaming experience, and everything that fans expect from a football management title. And with the licensing deals with well-known German and European clubs, the players will also be able to lead their favourite team to victory.”

Sophisticated live text commentary creates vivid stadium atmosphere

At the heart of the game is the live text commentary system, which delivers incisive and witty commentary to every game, giving the player up-to-the-minute coverage of the game’s developments and providing them with the opportunity to make active changes using various commands. The player can, for example, issue a ‘full attack’ command and have their team play offensively for the subsequent minutes.

“In designing the commentary system we’ve worked hard to recreate the tonality used by the sports media,” says Knut Brockmann, Matchday’s Lead Game Designer at Gameforge. “The team working on Matchday consists in its entirety of huge football fanatics, which is one of the reasons we wanted to make a title which hits a nerve with the fans.”

Every day is matchday – with top international teams on demand

Once the players have set up their teams, choosing names for their manager and club and creating a suitable emblem, there’s a short tutorial to show them the ropes before they can dive straight into the day-to-day job of a football manager. This means selecting the right tactics for the team, organising suitable training for the players such that everything gels with the desired playing style. After each training session and match played, there are training points available to improve the players’ abilities, which are divided into different attributes such as ‘Defence’ or ‘Technique’.

New teams start out in the fifth amateur league, playing one match a day against thirteen other managers for the chance to be promoted into the next league. Thanks to optionally available licensing packets, players will have the option of festooning their teams with the emblems and football strips of real top clubs.

Matchday: Football Manager will appear in time for the start of the Bundesliga in August 2014 as a free download for iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
