A focus on nurturing independent game developers sees Curve Digital beat off stiff competition to be named the Develop Publishing Hero

In true David & Goliath style, London-based Curve Digital has taken on the video games giants and won, snapping up the award for Develop Publishing Hero.
The team was presented with the award at the Develop Awards ceremony held during this week’s Develop: Brighton conference, which each year attracts some of the biggest names in video games from around the world.
Curve Digital was shortlisted alongside heavyweights Xbox and Sega, plus respected industry players Team 17, 505 Games, Dovetail Games, Devolver and Channel 4.
It’s a huge achievement for Curve Digital, which was one of the earliest dedicated publishers of indie games.
Notable releases in 2016 / 2017 include Human: Fall Flat, which has quickly established itself as a real hit on YouTube, with views in excess of 90 million. The game, coded by Lithuanian indie Tomas Sakalauskas, was published on PC in July 2016 and consoles 10 months later, to huge applause.
Manual Samuel is another original IP that Curve brought to market, working with with Norway-based developer Perfectly Paranormal to help port to console and bring to market – again with considerable success.
But it’s not just original games which have fuelled the Curve engine. This year, the firm has partnered with leading indie studios such as The Chinese Room and The Molasses Flood to bring updated versions of Dear Esther and The Flame in the Flood to consoles.
“2017 will be seen as a pivotal year for Curve, and picking up the award for Publishing Hero is an incredibly proud moment for the team,” said Managing Director Jason Perkins.
“The injection of funds provided since our acquisition by Catalis last year has enabled us to invest in bigger and better titles from all over the world. There is a lot more to come from us over the next 12 months.”
Publishing Director Simon Byron added: “You’ll not often see Curve Digital hogging the headlines. We prefer instead to let our games and partners occupy the limelight, which is indicative of our ‘developer first’ approach.
“The developers who have created the incredible games we’ve been lucky enough to release over the past 12 months are our heroes. To pick up an award voted for by some of them – particularly in light of the competition we faced – is incredible. We’re truly honoured.”
