Koelnmesse and the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software (BIU), the ideal sponsor of Europe's largest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment, announced that Great Britain will be the partner country for this year's gamescom, which will be taking place in Cologne from 17 to 21 August 2011. Under the direction of TIGA, the industry association for the British games industry, the highest revenue games market and at the same time the largest location for video game development in Europe will thus be presented exclusively at gamescom. Due to its innovative business development and consistent expansion of training infrastructure, the hotspot of the international video game development landscape has a worldwide reputation as a model for successful regional economic policies for the games industry. TIGA will be implementing the partner country concept together with UKTI (UK Trade&Investment). After last year's contents and policies focused on the games industry outside of Europe with Canada as the partner country, this year Koelnmesse and the German Association of Interactive Entertainment Software have intentionally shifted the focus back to Europe.
Gerald B?se, Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH: "Great Britain and gamescom are an ideal combination. The European centre of the games industry as the partner country in the middle of the most important European trade fair platform - it's a perfect partnership!"
"With its trendsetting regional economic policies, which recognise and support games as one of the supporting pillars of the cultural and creative industry, as well as its exceptionally dynamic video game development landscape, Great Britain will certainly make its mark at this year's gamescom," Olaf Wolters, Managing Director of the German Trade Association of Interactive Entertainment Software, said confidently.
Dr Richard Wilson, CEO of TIGA, said: "At TIGA our vision is to make the UK the best place in the world to do games business. So we are delighted to be the official partner of gamescom, the leading trade fair for Europe and beyond for the video games industry. The UK is one of the world's creative hubs and a global centre for video game development. Partner status will demonstrate to the global video games industry that the UK is at the heart of video games, creativity, development and innovation."
"TIGA, the UK's only officially accredited trade association for the video game sector, will be working with UK Trade&Investment to support a score of games businesses to attend gamescom via the Trade Show Access Programme. We look forward to championing the UK video games sector and to working as the official partner of gamescom."
The partner country Great Britain will be officially presented in Cologne during the international press conference for gamescom 2011 on Thursday, 16 June 2011. The press conference will be broadcast live on the Internet.
