GameTako Launches Its Second Region-Wide Arabic Game Jam With Sponsorship From Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Unity Technologies and N2V

Riding on the success of the first Game Zanga game jam and competition, GameTako announced the second iteration of the event which is bound to be bigger than ever with seven sponsors and venues in four cities.


Riyadh - June 28, 2012 / GameTako ( www.gametako.com ) announced today that it will be holding its second region-wide“ Game Zanga” game development weekend and competition on 12-14 July 2012. The event is sponsored by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE), Unity Technologies and National Net Ventures (N2V) and will be held in four cities: Amman, Beirut, Cairo and Riyadh.

Game Zanga is a 72-hour game development weekend event where professional and aspiring game creators gather to socialize, learn and create games. The event will start with an opening keynote and motivational sessions after which development will commence. Participants will be tasked with creating games adhering to a community-voted theme that will be revealed at the start of the first day. At the end of the third day, participants will be given time to finalize and submit their games.

Our first Zanga was very well received among the Arab game development community. We had two sponsors, and over a hundred participants who created 15 games” Said Abdullah Hamed, GameTako Founder and CEO.“ Following the success of the first event, we are working hard on making Game Zanga the premier event for game developers in the region. This Summer edition is already looking to eclipse the first one in size, with seven sponsors and venues in four key Arab cities. It is a great time to be a game developer in Arabia”.

N2V, the largest consumer web and mobile investment company in the region, is the Strategic Partner of the Game Zanga, while SCEE and Unity Technologies are Main Sponsors. The Zanga is also generously supported by Stencyl, Scirra, Kindi Software and Mixed Dimensions.

The event will be hosted in the cities of Beirut, Cairo and Riyadh, in partnership with Berytech Technological Pole, Cairo Hackerspace, The District and Badir Program For Technology Incubators.

As an incentive for participants, the top games will be awarded cash and in-kind prizes with total value exceeding USD 10,000. Winners will be decided by verdict from a judging panel representing Arab gaming specialist media outlets. Prizes include free software licenses to industry-leading game development tools such as Unity Pro, Stencyl and Construct 2. SCEE will award the top performing teams in each venue PSVita consoles and a multi-year contract to develop games through the PS Mobile Developer Program.

New to the Zanga this year, will be the Sponsor Sessions. Sponsor Sessions will be talks held on the second day of the Zanga and will allow developers to take a break from developing their games and learn about the latest game development platforms, tools and support initiatives from the sponsors.
