Publishers will soon have a new way to introduce their titles to consumers via a new service for game trials with instant unlock on purchase
SHEFFIELD, England - March 5, 2014 – Soon, there will be a new way for gamers to preview great PC games, running on their own PCs, before they part with their money. All of this is made possible by GameSessions , a new service giving players a chance to try full games first, with super-fast downloads based on new technology, and where publishers can choose what aspects of the games to highlight.
“No one would preview a movie by listening to just the soundtrack, and no one would try and sell a new album with just a listing of the lyrics. So how come game publishers have to rely on video to sell their great new games,” said Ed French, CEO of Tangentix Ltd.
Better yet, GameSessions allows players to move from trial to purchase instantly, in game, without waiting for a disk to be delivered or a different version to be downloaded.
GameSessions is about to launch a public beta so everyone can see what the experience can offer. The company will be announcing an amazing line-up of partners in the coming weeks and months who are working with the team to bring great games to gamers everywhere.
“Gamers should always be allowed to try a game before they buy since it’s the best way to introduce players to a title. Through great gameplay, great games sell themselves so it’s a more natural process than video or screenshots,” continued French.
GameSessions is from Tangentix Ltd, a team of keen and bright programmers, who also happen to be gamers, based in the UK. It has been born from new mathematics from the University of Bradford and a series of patent-backed innovations that change the way games are discovered, delivered and purchased.
Tangentix has some key industry visionaries on board as well. Chris Deering, the former head of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (PlayStation) serves as chairman of the board and Ian Livingstone, of Games Workshop and Eidos fame is also a board member. Chris saw the massive benefit of game demos during the early console launches and is passionate about this huge step forward from the experience of demo games historically. Tangentix is also backed by some fantastic investors who’ve provided the money to transform the way users find PC games.
“Every entertainment industry needs a preview medium: PC gaming has a real need to find its own,” commented Chris Deering, Chairman of Tangentix Ltd. “For games that don’t utilize the Free-to-Play approach, GameSessions is going to be that medium.”
