VOLUMETRIC CLOUDS THAT MOVE AND ANIMATE IN REAL TIME
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Simul Software Ltd has announced that Eutechnyx, a leading independent studio based in Gateshead, England, has chosen the Simul Weather SDK to generate real-time weather effects for the forthcoming multi-platform title Ride to Hell, the first game of its kind produced and published with the new and innovative business model by Deep Silver and co-developed with Eutechnyx.
The Simul Weather SDK allows developers to generate clouds that grow and change in real time. Simul Weather models the whole sky to the horizon and provides a system for volumetric rendering. This system provides faster, more stable and controllable performance than particle or sprite-based cloud rendering. CPU load is also highly tunable. The SDK works within a developer’s chosen rendering framework, offering the developer full control of all aspects of weather rendering.
“Simul Weather is a great example of good middleware,” said Dr Andrew Perella, Chief Software Architect of Eutechnyx,“it does exactly what it sets out to do without imposing itself on the structure of the game engine. Additionally, Simul Software have responded quickly and flexibly to any issues we faced.”
“We are delighted to be working with Eutechnyx,” said Dr Roderick Kennedy, Chief Executive of Simul,“and look forward to seeing Simul Weather in Ride to Hell, the first major title to feature our system.”
"We are very happy about Eutechnyx decision to use Simul Weather. We've never seen the natural peculiarities of the Californian climate done in such a believable way before ever.", says Hannes Seifert, Executive Producer at the Deep Silver development studio.
Simul Software Ltd was founded in Manchester in 2007 by games industry veterans. The Chief Executive and Technical Lead of Simul is Dr Roderick Kennedy, whose previous work includes the DID classics TFX and EF2000; and Evolution Studios’ WRC4 and WRC: Rally Evolved.
The Simul Weather SDK was recently selected as a finalist for the British Computer Society’s IT Industry Awards in the Research and Development category.
